How to Install a Foreign Language on Your Computer

Setup Time: 15-45 Minutes (Depending on prior knowledge)
Before You Start:
· Make sure you have your operating system installation CD
· Make Sure you are logged on as an Administrator (If you have one on your computer)
Step 1:
Click start and then select control panel
Step 2:
Click regional and language options
Step 3:
Click languages
Step 4:
Select install files for East Asian Languages
Step 5:
Select “OK” on the pop-up dialog box.
Step 6:
Select “Apply” on the regional and language options dialog box.
Step 7:
Wait for dialog box to finish copying the files
Step 8:
· Insert your operating system installation disk when the insert disk dialog box appears and then select “OK”
· Wait for the dialog box to finish copying the files
Step 9:
Select “Yes” when the restart your computer dialog box appears.
Step 10:
· Return to the regional and language options under your computer’s control panel
· Click details
Step 11:
Select language bar under the text services and input languages dialog box
Step 12:
· Select “Show the language bar on the desktop”
· Click “OK”
Step 13:
Click “Add”
Step 14:
Under input language, select Japanese
Step 15:
· Check the box for Keyboard Input/IME
· Select US under Keyboard Input/IME
· Click “OK”
Step 16:
Select “Apply” on the text services and input languages and then select “OK” on any other dialog boxes that are still open
· You are now ready to use 日本語 on your computer. This installation will allow you to view and write Japanese text. You can use this on any application that requires a text input.
· To change your text input from English to Japanese click the “EN” icon on your start bar and select Japanese. You do the same when you want to switch back to English. You can also choose if you want to write in ひらがな, カタアナ or English under the language bar.
